Well as I am continuing my quest to become a 21st centurion, it has come to my attention that I am still a technological neophyte. No really, it is still shockingly true! That is why not only have I not responded to any comments, but I have not been able to help anyone who has asked me, “How do I comment on your blog?” I was going to switch to wordpress or tumbler, but whoa! One change at a time! So, maybe next month.
I really cannot manage changing too many relationships at once. I am impressed with those of you who can juggle multiple affairs, i.e., life changes, but me… not so much. Yes, I will say it out loud, Nook is courting me. There I have said it, now what? I still love the touch and feel of Book. Am I cheating? Nook is patiently sitting quietly on my desk teasing me with the promise of a new and exciting future.
Now at about this point, you might be wondering what has me cheating with technology got to do with learning to deal with the small hassles of life? But… think about it… technology is a double edged sword, and perhaps the world’s biggest energy vampire, potentially interfering in all of our relationships. Come on admit it…how much time do you spend on Facebook, twitter, Linkedin, tumbler, wordpress, e-mail, google, Farmville, texting…
As most of you are aware, I started this blog to meet a requirement for my technology course. I keep chanting, “I love technology, I love technology!” Actually, I do think that I am learning to appreciate the value of social media and blogging as an effective communication tool. In fact, I think that Facebook will be my primary communication vehicle for my college students in the fall, because I am breaking up with Blackboard!
However, how much is too much? I love the bing.com commercials on information overload. OK… they are marketing their own version of information overload, but you get my point.
Bing Commercial 2011 - Supermarket Food Fight (Animal House)
“Combine all that with shifting corporate strategy, constant organizational change, 100 or more emails a day, web sites to check, iTunes, eBay, TiVo, blogs, wikis, RSS feeds, instant messaging, cell phone text messages – aaaaaaaaagghh! Make it stop!
No wonder 80 percent of the complaints treated by doctors are stress-related.” Bill Boyd
http://www.communitelligence.com/clps/clitem.cfm?adsid=394
I would love to know what ya’ll think about information overload…Technology is here to stay, but how do we learn to manage the stress associated with our love affair change.
Thanks again for your help and as always hugs to you all,
Tracy

Being Right is the Ultimate Gardyloo.
Being Right is the Ultimate Gardyloo
Being right is the booby prize of life! That’s right, I will say it again, being right is the booby prize of life! all you get to be is right. I spend a great deal of time not only discussing this concept, but pondering why many of us would rather be right and alone with our righteousness, than to create or maintain relationships.
I own two…please no comments…4 pound poodles, Princess Sophia and Naughty Nino. I really cannot profess to be an expert in dog talk, but, Nino barks back! Always! Nino wants to be the boss more than anything in his little life. His need to be the boss surpasses his need to be loved on, to be held, to get treats…seriously, he just wants to be the boss of… well anything. I think his new name should be “last bark Nino”. Even when he knows that he has been naughty, i.e., wrong, he would rather be punished than to walk away.
I must admit that I really do not care if I am right, really…to be honest, upon reflection, I must admit sometimes my choices could have been better. For those of you who do not know, my Mother passed away a little over two years ago. Many of my philosophies changed during the course of her illness and after her death. As I get older, at the end of the day I really do not think that much matters beyond relationships. For lack of a better description, after my Mother died, I inherited my 90 year old Grandmother. What an adventure! The biggest life lesson that I think that I have learned over the course of the last two years is that being right does not matter. MamMa will be moving in with us soon and she wants to bring her own furniture… really it is my Mother’s furniture. It is her last physical link to my Mother, as well as her last bit of independence and control. In order for her to bring this furniture, I have to either store or sell my furniture. I was really struggling with this when my husband said, “We are not married to any of our furniture, sell it, store it, or donate it.” What a relief! I do find I love being able to say this when people say to me, but “she is moving in with you!” Perhaps she should use our furniture, but really…what is right?
My life question to ya’ll is what issue is worth arguing over? Or, have you ever decided that being right was more important than a relationship? If so, why was the need to argue (be right) more important than the relationship?
Thanks again for your support and help with my technology project!
Warmest regards,
Tracy

Taradiddle!
Well….here we are again. I am wondering if I jinxed myself with using the word gardyloo. Or, is it just life?
On a positive note, I think I have made friends with my teeth! But,three of my fours cars did break in one day. I had fabulous luck (not really) until I thought that I should share my love of the word gardyloo. Since then…well….
I am still thinking that I should break up with technology, but, I do not think that technology is going away. Gardyloo! Right??? I think that I have now discovered the purpose of this blog exercise…I have really appreciated all of the responses…even though no one can read them but me….and… I am not tech savvy enough to post the responses to the comment area. Heck… I am not even tech savvy enough to answer comments…I guess this is part of my tech journey…I am hoping to get blog help from one of my friends who is a master blogger! Kimmie..where are you?
OK, I recognize the rambling nature of this post, but isn’t that the point of a blog? Pointless ramblings?
As an aside, one of my more technology wise friends did go on to tell me that I should move my blog to a more current and hip site! I was thinking…”now you tell me!” If I cannot figure out this site…how am I going to change? So…guess we will just have stay the course.
I am so excited! I learned a new word taradiddle...what a great word! I have spent all week trying to incorporate that word into my vocabulary. My daughter and her friend think that I am going to get punched in the face if I tell someone they are either (1)…teradiddling me… or (2)in fact a taradiddler. While I am considering their concerns, I am still thinking……I could yell “Gardyloo!” and then quickly slip in “taradiddle”. I am not sure anyone would even notice! Then,I could escape…face intact!
taradiddle or tarradiddle
PRONUNCIATION:
(tar-uh-DID-l)
MEANING:
noun: 1. A petty lie. 2. Pretentious nonsense.
ETYMOLOGY:
Origin unknown. Earliest documented use: 1796.
So, my Life Adventure Question is…what do you think? Would you punch someone in the face who called you a taradiddler?
Hugs to you all!
Tracy

I was gardylooed!
Well, I am sad to admit that gardyloo let me down! I thought it was a word for all occasions and maybe it is…in a different form. I think that I was gardylooed on Monday, yes that is right, I was gardylooed!
I must admit that perhaps I am somewhat responsible for the sad state of affairs that is my dental health. Despite my very adamant protests, the very efficient receptionist insisted that it HAD been four years since my last visit. I was positive that could not be true, but alas apparently it was indeed true. So four fillings later, I thought all was right with the world. But no... I convinced myself that my throbbing mouth was because my (cannot say enough nice things about) dentist must have messed up! But no… did y’all know that old fillings fail? Who knew? Apparently, everyone but me! So, after a morning meeting where one of my buds whispered, ”say it ain’t so… root canal” I reluctantly drove off to the dentist.
Still thinking that all was good with the world, I fired up my laptop and patiently waited for my turn. I began to become concerned when the wonderful assistant said, “Oh…I hope your old root canal or filing has not failed!” I thought “ummmmm…what could she be talking about?” I was still confident that all that would be required was a little bite adjustment. Gardyloo! Just a little inconvenience, but no…she came back into the room and let me know that the dentist thought perhaps an x-ray was in order, no worries, just a routine practice. I knew I was in trouble when my long-term friend/dentist came in and looked sweetly in my eyes and said “don’t worry, but….as a precaution the very kind endodontist is ready for you next door.” I must report that he was gently petting my arm while discussing this with me. Still, I did not quite understand… I was beginning to become concerned when the staff urged me to go quickly, no check required…”they are waiting for you!” Gardyloo?!?
As I walk to the next office, I have still not realized that I was about to be gardylooed. It was the office of an endodontist. Just in case you were wondering, an endodontist is a dentist specializing in diseases of the dental pulp and nerve. What a wonderful man, this endodontist, he was great as he was laying me back in the chair, giving me reassuring pats and squeezes, while saying, “no worries, just raise your hand if this hurts…” Wait, I thought that this was just a consultation, but no….. One half of a root canal later, I realized that indeed there was more than one interpretation to my word for all occasions…gardyloo!
Life Adventure Quiz #2
You are unexpectedly gardylooed, during a visit to the dentist., or more accurately the endodontist.
a. You are in shock, and since you do have a dental dam in your mouth. you nod in agreement.
b. You think gradyloo to yourself, and since you do have a dental dam in your mouth, you nod in agreement.
c. You cry, silently of course since you do have a dental dam in your mouth.
Try as I might, I could not think of a realistic life quiz for this situation! I think it is a life lesson…dental visits are important! Old fillings need to be replaced….and, most importantly be nice to your dentist!
Hugs to you all!

Life Adventure Quiz #1
Gardyloo! Or, how to gracefully (mostly) handle the adventures (crap) of life!
gar•dy•loo (gär′dē loo) interjection This word is historical to Edinburgh, used as a warning to people below that slops were about to be thrown from a window into the street. Origin: French, garde à l'eau, beware of the water
Webster's New World College Dictionary Copyright © 2010 by Wiley Publishing, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio. Used by arrangement with John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
When I found out that I had to write a blog for my technology course, my first thought was, “What in the world possessed me to take a technology course as I chase my quest for a doctorate?” My next thought was “gardyloo” ~ my word reminding me to duck, figuratively of course. Actually, gardyloo is a staple in my private vocabulary that reminds me not only to duck, but to keep a sense of humor as I deal with life’s little surprises. Garrdyloo is a word for all occasions.
The problem is that normally when I think gardyloo…. I look up instead of ducking…oops! So, I either step in it or get covered in it! To make matters worse, I have been firmly in the anti-technology camp for years! To say that I have had a love-hate relationship with technology is an understatement. But, since technology seems to be here to stay, I guess I will continue to embrace my new relationship with the 21st century. In this case, I will become a 21st Century blogger.
As I considered all of the possible blog topics, I thought what could be better than exploring the little inconveniences and adventures of life. I am convinced if we all had a word which allowed us to deal with stress and frustration with humor, then perhaps we would all lead a life filled with rainbows and waterfalls. Alright, maybe it would not be all sunshine and roses, but, maybe it would be better. I propose that word is Gardyloo! How can anyone be stressed or frustrated while silently yelling “Gardyloo”!
I want to thank any of you who are willing to humor me by participating with me in this little technology experiment. Initially I thought that I should have a topic of the week or day, but then I thought that technology does not seem to have a theme, but rather explores everything and nothing. So, this blog will be about everything and nothing, the random thoughts of my day, or more accurately the gardyloo moments.
Life Adventure Quiz #1
You are desperate for a Starbucks coffee, and you spot the one lone parking spot in the poorly planned extra small parking lot in downtown Houston. Being the well-mannered considerate soul that you are, you patiently wait with your blinker on to grab the covenanted parking space, your Momma did raise you well!….but NO, an inconsiderate Jetta swoops in and steals your spot! What do you do?
A. You yell Gardyloo (silently to yourself of course, people might think you had issues if you yelled “Gardyloo “out the window of your car) while circling the parking lot looking for another spot. Being the gracious individual you know you are (or hope to become), you realize that this person probably needed the coffee more than you, and are happy the Jetta girl got the space!
B. You lay on the horn, blocking the offending car as you wait for the driver to get out, so you can confront them. As you bask in your sense of indignation, you have created a minor traffic jam and almost caused a fender bender. The bystander’s fingers are crossed hoping that they do not get caught in the crossfire!
C. You cry.
I would love to report that this is a fictitious scenario, but no it actually happened today. I must acknowledge that the parking lot on Montrose Blvd in Houston was a tad small, but really?…to lay on your horn for five plus minutes?….just saying…I wish I could report how the story ended, but…the Texas Junk Company closed at 6pm and the need to look for authentic Texas cowboy boots won out…..
What I would love to know is if this has happened to you, how you would have handled this situation.
I want to thank you all for helping me with my blog project! Also, feel free to post your own life adventures!
Warmest Regards,
Tracy
